Beautiful 1948 Studebaker pick up

Beautiful Love that Paint !

I am an old Studebaker fan but that paint is what caught my eye. Looked at painting a project that beautiful red that Mazda uses but it actually 3 stages of paint and the materials was over $2K- just for paint.

way back in the 70's ...I had a 66 Corvette ...( should have never sold it but oh well...) I was looking into having a Body Shop paint it, I can't remember the name of the paint but it changed colors from every angle really slick stuff. I think they quoted me around 3K ...( the whole car at that point wasn't worth 3K ! ) I wound up having my next door neighbor paint it stock White ...it didn't turn out too bad considering He never painted a car before !
He didn't charge me anything , I just payed for the supplies ...Paint back then ( it was a Lacquer ) was something like 28 bucks a quart .... The good old days. He told me the Overspray was still on the walls when they sold the house 25 years later

I used to paint with Imron. It was aircraft paint that would take a beating and look new and wet after 10 years. Would make you sick as a dog if you didn't have the proper respirator. Stuff contained methyl isocyanate. That was the same stuff that leaked out of a Union Carbide plant years ago I think in Bhopal. Killed many people as the fumes settled in the valley where they lived. Couple of times I was laying out in the grass before I wised up. Can't buy it now. In retirement I will set up a paint booth and start old car restoration. Bunch of new paints to experiment with. I will see if I still have the touch.

Wow, that's sharp. Did you do the restoration yourself?

This one was in pretty good shape when I got it. Needed cleaning and getting a few mechanical fixes done. Still a work in progress.

It's a nice find. I don't have the wherewithal to tackle a project like that. I admire the talent it takes to bring those old bones back to life.
